Handball United Ranking System

We rank singles and doubles completely separately. You can be C in one and A in the other – every format has its own wins, its own promotions, and its own story.

Beginner C Class
Entry-Level Competitor

You’re in the draw, learning the game, and still chasing your first sanctioned win in that format.

  • 0 wins in that format (singles or doubles).
  • Can play up into B and A events – you just won’t be ranked there yet.
  • That first tournament win moves you straight into B Class.
Amateur B Class
Proven Contender

You’ve got wins on the board and you’re in the group that’s fighting to break into A.

  • Earned with your first win, or by being demoted down from A.
  • 3 wins within a 2-year window → promoted to Rookie A at the end of the season.
  • Win an A event as a B → you jump to Rookie A immediately in that ceremony year.
Professional Rookie A
A-Level On Trial

You’ve cracked A, but you’re on a one-time probation year to prove you belong at the top.

  • Reached via 3 B-class wins in 2 years, or by winning an A event as a B.
  • You have one Rookie A season to place Top 16 at least once.
  • If you don’t place, you’re demoted back to B and your A progress fully resets.
Professional Seasoned A
Established A Player

You passed Rookie A. Your A status is locked in and you live in the top class for that format.

  • Permanent A after a single Top 16 finish during your Rookie A year.
  • You can only play A-level brackets – no dropping back into B or C.
  • Win an A event as a Seasoned A and you become a Paid Professional for the next year.
Professional Paid A
Paid A Professional

Seasoned A players who win A events and earn a paid year with perks on top of their A status.

  • Unlocked by winning an A event as a Seasoned A.
  • Grants one full year of paid status in that format: free entries and appearance money.
  • Each new A win extends your paid year; your underlying class stays Seasoned A.

The Journey
swipe →

Use this path for singles, doubles, or both — each format runs through the same five steps.

Step 1
Start at C – No Wins Yet
C

You’ve never won singles before – you’re entering as a brand-new C player.

You can enter any singles bracket right away, but your official rank stays C until you win.

Singles and doubles are tracked separately, but you can climb both ladders at the same time.

Step 2
Win C – Become B
B

You win a C singles event and officially move up into B Class for singles.

Your singles rank is now B, while your doubles class stays wherever it was before.

Three B wins in two years, or one win in an A event, opens the door to Rookie A status.

Step 3
Rookie A – Carded
A

You reach A singles status and enter your rookie A year at the top level.

You’re promoted and carded as Rookie A at the January 1st ceremony for that season.

You have one rookie year to finish 1–16 at least once or you drop back to B and restart.

Step 4
Seasoned A – Pro
A

You place 1–16 during your rookie year and lock in full A status in singles.

Your class becomes Seasoned A – you’re recognized as a professional in that format.

From here you only compete in A-level singles; there’s no dropping back into lower brackets.

Step 5
Paid A – Contract Year
$

You win an open singles event and become a paid A player with a fresh card next ceremony.

You earn a full paid year: singles entries are covered and you’re paid to show up.

Every open singles win that year increases your appearance bonus and can extend your paid run.

Ranking System FAQ

Read this before you start arguments at the courts.

Are singles and doubles rankings connected?
No. Singles and doubles are completely separate. You can be C in singles and Seasoned A in doubles, or the other way around. Wins only count in the specific format they’re earned in.
What’s the fastest way to reach Rookie A?
You have two paths: (1) collect 3 wins as a B within a 2-year window, or (2) win an A-level event while you’re still B Class. Path two is the “skip the line” option and promotes you to Rookie A in that ceremony year.
What happens if I fail my Rookie A year?
If you don’t place Top 16 at least once during your Rookie A season, you’re demoted back to B in that format. Your old progress toward A is wiped – you start fresh as B and there is no second rookie timer.
Can I ever play down in class?
No. You can always play up, never down. C can enter B or A. B can enter A. Rookie A and Seasoned A can only play A brackets. Paid status does not change that – if you’re A, you live in A.
What exactly is a Paid A professional?
Paid A is a Seasoned A player who wins an A event. Each A win gives them a full year of paid status: free entries and appearance money in that format. Win again, and the clock extends.
Does Paid A change my class label?
No. Class-wise you’re still Seasoned A. “Paid A” sits on top of that as a reward. When your paid year ends, you stay Seasoned A – you just lose the paid perks until you win again.
Do old B-class wins still count after more than 2 years?
The 3-win requirement for promotion only looks at a 2-year window. Older wins stay in your history but stop counting toward that 3-win milestone. You’ll need enough recent results inside the window to move up.
