Rule 5. Penalties & Illegal Movements

  1. Lateness: If a player is late to a promoted event they will lose their ‘to show’ bonus and possibly be completely moved from the event and replaced. We will be on a LIVE schedule and will have replacements handy.

  2. Disrespecting the Referee: Players should not converse with a referee for any reason unless they have called an appeal. Foul or rude language to the referee will not be tolerated in any way and you will lose a point at first and ultimately be disqualified if the disrespect continues.

  3. Disrespecting the Event: Anything that can be a considered a ‘delay of game’ is grounds for a point deduction and possibly a disqualification depending on the situation.

If you do not agree with the rules above or have a different opinion on a particular part of the rule please fill out the appeal form.

Rule 5.1: Penalties

  1. Leaning: This is a tactic used by players when the ball is close enough to them they want to limit the view and space for the shooter. The player will lean into the ball rather than away from the ball to decrease the shooters chances of winning the volley and will be called out immediately and either a point will be awarded or it will result in a down.

  2. Crossing: Crossing the ball is done when a player leaves his corner completely open and anticipates the shoot to early and end up eliminating a shot that would still be available had that player stood still.

  3. Getting up on a shot: If a player ends up with their hands or knees on the ground retrieving a ball they must stay on the ground unless they return the ball to the opposing side of the court or they are out of the shooter’s lane of view.

  4. Forced Backswing: While being behind the shooter, a player will intentionally move forward to crowd the shooter and rush the shot. This is completely legal UNLESS contact is made, if contact is made with the shooter that means the player has not given the required space to shoot their shot which will lead to a down/point.
